Record Fishing and Hunting License Sales During Pandemic

If you feel like there’s more folks out enjoying the outdoors you would be correct. Utah State Parks and other agencies saw a significant jump of visitors during the pandemic, a trend that continues. DWR saw a record year for hunting and fishing license sales.

Old Fort Ponds Officially Open for the Season

Spring is here and for anglers that means a new season for fishing! With the ice melting Utah Division of Wildlife Resources announced on Wednesday that Old Fort Ponds is officially open for the season. This news gets even better as DWR Conservation Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer-Selby announced that the fish survived the winter so it will be a great start to the season!

Dr. Daniel Kwak, local pediatrician and owner of DinosaurLand Pediatrics in Vernal, has made it his business to care for the children in the Uintah Basin. Now those same children and their families are doing what they can to share their love and support for him as he faces his own health crisis. Tragedy struck earlier this year when Dr. Kwak had to be hospitalized as a result of complications from contracting COVID-19.

A rural recycling option is now available in Roosevelt City. The Recyclops company uses a tech-driven smart routing app to efficiently gather recycled items from households in rural areas. A Forbes magazine highlight stated that Recyclops serves over 3,500 homes in rural areas across multiple states since its inception in 2014.

DWR: Don’t Let Dogs Chase Wildlife While Enjoying the Outdoors

Spring is a great time to head outdoors but the Division of Wildlife Resources has a clear message for dog owners: do not let them run wild and chase wildlife. Dogs that are off leash while in nature may act on their instincts to chase deer and other big game animals but this is harmful for wildlife because by the end of winter they are often vulnerable and weak from struggling to find food.
