Tri-County Area COVID-19 Transmission Level Update (2/11/21 – 2/17/21)

The TriCounty Health District COVID-19 Transmission Index Levels remain the same with Uintah County and Duchesne County at the High Transmission Level and Daggett County at the Low Transmission Level. According to Thursday’s press release, Uintah County’s 7-day average percent positivity was 17 percent and there were 145 cases in the past 14 days.

There was a bill that was debated at the Utah House panel that is being sponsored by Representative Kera Birkeland. Her district includes the northwestern part of Duchesne County. HB 302, Preserving Sports for Female Students, is a bill that would require public schools to designate athletic activities by sex.

Vernal Innovation Hub Holds Grand Opening; Welcomes Public

The Vernal Innovation Hub held its Grand Opening this week. “It was an amazing event,” shares manager Lori Haslem. “We really enjoyed having so many people come out and visit and tour the facility.” The Innovation Hub evolved from idea to completion despite a downturn in the local economy, shares the Hub’s website.

Stone Found Only In Duchesne County Could Become the State Stone

What is the state bird? The Seagull. What is the state flower? Sego Lily. What is the state stone? Utah doesn't have one (though it does have a gemstone). Representative Christine Watkins has decided to draft and sponsor HB 188 in the 2021 Utah Legislature, to make the state stone Honeycomb Calcite, something exclusively unique to the Uintah Basin.

Uintah Basin Healthcare Warns About Toxic Hand Sanitizer

Uintah Basin Healthcare wants the community to know that the FDA has issued a warning for some alcohol based hand sanitizers that were imported from Mexico. These sanitizers were found to have toxic ingredients including methanol. Hand sanitizers are regulated as over-the-counter (non-prescription) drugs by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, so they are consistently tested for safety.
