Center Creek Trail Fire and East Fork Fire Updates

There is a bit of good news in the fire front. Center Creek Trail Fire has shown limited fire behavior and currently poses no threat of moving south. The East Fork Fire however, has caused the Forest Service to modify the closure area. The Blindstream Road is closed from the switchbacks to Rock Creek Road.

Vernal UTAH’s Storytelling Festival Rescheduled To Saturday

The Basin has enjoyed the annual Storytelling Festival for many years but unfortunately, it had to be cancelled last spring due to COVID-19. Good news is here, however, as it has been rescheduled for this Saturday, September 19th, at 2pm. The festival will open with a local storyteller Katie Chanelle Ufford sharing stories from our very own small town. The talented and highly popular Sam Payne will also be there.

Reports of a prowler in Duchesne County have many on edge. Based on the reports shared on social media the prowler is allegedly a man, sometimes dressed as the Cat in the Hat, targeting children by tapping on their windows during the late night and early morning hours and in more extreme examples is actually entering bedrooms through windows.

A man was escorted from a Duchesne County School Board meeting last week after refusing to wear a mask. “The Duchesne School Board had a mask rule in place (state building),” shares Roosevelt Police Chief Rick Harrison. “One person…in attendance refused to wear a mask. He was asked several times by school board officials and others in attendance to comply.
