Uintah County Comments On Ashley Creek Area Land Transfer

Monday’s transfer of 790.02 acres of the Ashley Gorge area to Uintah County was a moment years in the making. According to a press release from Uintah County issued on Tuesday, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act of 2019 was started by Congressman Rob Bishop over seven years ago with the creation of the Public Lands Initiative aimed at helping Utah counties have more say in managing public lands.

Fire Restrictions for Ashley National Forest Starts

Ashley National Forest has placed fire restrictions to help reduce the potential for wildfires and provide for public safety. These restrictions include no igniting, building, maintaining, or using a fire outside of fire structure provided by the Forest Service;

‘6400 Fire’ in Fruitland at 75 Percent Containment

Progress has continued on the ‘6400 Fire’ that started in Fruitland on Friday. According to fire PIO Mike Eriksson, the fire was 75 percent contained as of Monday evening. “This was a human caused fire that is under investigation,” shares Eriksson.

Ashley National Forest has welcomed new Forest Supervisor Susan Eickhoff. She has served with the Forest Service for 30 years in such roles as District Wildlife Biologist, Ecosystem Biologist, NEPA Contract Coordinator, District Ranger and, recently, Acting Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests and Acting Forest Supervisor on the Shoshone National Forest.

Richard Mountain Fire 90 Percent Contained

Daggett County Sheriff’s Office shared some good news over the weekend. The Richard Mountain Fire has reached 90 percent containment and the focus has shifted to working on the perimeter and fire mop up.
