Monday’s transfer of 790.02 acres of the Ashley Gorge area to Uintah County was a moment years in the making. According to a press release from Uintah County issued on Tuesday, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act of 2019 was started by Congressman Rob Bishop over seven years ago with the creation of the Public Lands Initiative aimed at helping Utah counties have more say in managing public lands.

Father’s Body Recovered; Search Continues For Missing Son Near Firehole Canyon
The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office provided an update Monday on the search for the missing 34-year-old Rock Springs man and his seven-year-old son. The pair were last seen leaving their campsite near Flaming Gorge Reservoir in an all-terrain vehicle at around 11:30pm on August 6th.
BLM Approves Conveyance of Ashley Springs to Uintah County
Uintah County is officially in control of the Ashley Springs watershed. The Bureau of Land Management Vernal Field Office announced Monday that the conveyance to Uintah County of the 790 acres of property has been approved.
‘6400 Fire’ in Fruitland at 75 Percent Containment
Progress has continued on the ‘6400 Fire’ that started in Fruitland on Friday. According to fire PIO Mike Eriksson, the fire was 75 percent contained as of Monday evening. “This was a human caused fire that is under investigation,” shares Eriksson.
Ashley National Forest Welcomes New Forest Supervisor
Ashley National Forest has welcomed new Forest Supervisor Susan Eickhoff. She has served with the Forest Service for 30 years in such roles as District Wildlife Biologist, Ecosystem Biologist, NEPA Contract Coordinator, District Ranger and, recently, Acting Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests and Acting Forest Supervisor on the Shoshone National Forest.

Father and Son Missing After Side-by-Side Ride at Flaming Gorge
SweetwaterNOW.com has reported that a middle-aged man and his 7-year-old son were missing after the pair took off on a side by side ride at Flaming Gorge. “The Sheriff’s Office received a call Saturday morning between 6 and 7 am about the missing father and son,” shared SweetwaterNOW.
Richard Mountain Fire 90 Percent Contained
Daggett County Sheriff’s Office shared some good news over the weekend. The Richard Mountain Fire has reached 90 percent containment and the focus has shifted to working on the perimeter and fire mop up.
