The Duchesne County School District announced that they will be destroying confidential special education records of students born in the year of 1992. “In accordance with federal statutes, each student’s records may be considered ‘no longer needed to provide educational services’ and may be destroyed after the student turns 27 years old ,” shares the District. “Unless otherwise requested by parents, guardians, or former students of legal age, special education records, which meet the prescribed requirements, will be destroyed after March 16th, 2020.”

CORONAVIRUS: What You Need To Know
While there is no need to panic over the CORONAVIRUS, TriCounty Health Department has provided information on their Facebook page of what is helpful to know. The CORONAVIRUS is a new respiratory disease caused by a virus first detected in China in December. It is spread via respiratory droplets produced when a person coughs or sneezes and is shared mainly through close personal contact with another person. The effects of the virus range from mild symptoms to severe illness and death.

2nd Annual Adult Pinewood Derby Fundraiser
Do you remember the good old days in Cub Scouts and the excitement of getting the Pinewood Derby block of wood and sculpting the fastest things on the track? Now those 21 and older have a chance to relive the fun and it’s all for charity. The Vernal Elks Lodge will be having their second annual Adult Pinewood Derby on Saturday, March 7th. The cost is $25.00 dollars (and includes the car kit). The funds raised will go to our local Special Olympics. The event will have prizes and trophies. Car check in will be at 3:30pm. Remember: March is Colorectal Awareness Month
March is Colorectal Awareness Month and, if you were born in 1970 or before, it is important that you take note. Uintah Basin Healthcare reminds the Basin that colonoscopies should be done beginning at age 50. Colorectal cancer affects both men and women. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Regular screenings should start at age 50 and be done every 10 years unless you have an increased risk. Through screenings, doctors can find precancerous polyps early. You can then get them removed before they turn into cancer.
Dinosaur National Monument Starting New Social Media Series
Staring up at the night sky can be thrilling, awe inspiring, and a religious experience. While ranger led stargazing programs haven’t started back up quite yet at Dinosaur National Monument, they are talking stars in their new social media series that they are calling #CelestialSunday. Every Sunday on the Monument’s Facebook page, they will post stargazing tips, as well as weekly updates of what can be observed in the night skies in and around Dinosaur. Their first stargazing tip was to turn off the lights! It takes human eyes 30 minutes to fully adjust to dark conditions and any light, from a flashlight to a smartphone, restarts the process.
DWR Launches New Website Highlighting Wildlife Migration
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has launched a new website with valuable information that only a few other states are also offering. The site will offer data from the real-time tracking of wildlife. The Wildlife Migration Initiative program started in 2017 to track and study different wildlife and fish species and Utah is the only state to include fish tracking. Some of the species being tracked include black bears, elk, pronghorns, cougars, razorback sucker, cutthroat trout and boreal toads.
Chivers No Longer Eligible to Serve on Uintah School Board in District 2; Vacancy Announced
The Uintah School District announced on Wednesday that they have begun the process of filling a vacancy on the Uintah School Board. According to the announcement, Uintah County Clerk-Auditor Mike Wilkins informed the District on Friday, February 28th, that board member Dave Chivers is no longer eligible to serve in District 2.

Presidential Primary Election Results for Uintah and Duchesne Counties
It was high local voter turnout for the Presidential Primary Election on Tuesday. The following is the local preliminary election results. Clerk/Auditor JoAnn Evans reports that Duchesne County had a voter turnout of 44.8 percent. 295 Democratic ballots were received in Duchesne County with the top candidates being Bernie Sanders with 74 votes, Joseph Biden with 72 votes, and Michael Bloomberg with 54 votes. 3,698 Republican ballots were received in Duchesne County with Donald Trump receiving 3,576 votes, Bill Weld receiving 60 votes, and Joe Walsh receiving 23 votes.
