Family and friends are mourning the loss of a Manila girl after a car accident on Sunday. The Daggett County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Wyoming Highway Patrol on February 16th with a single-vehicle rollover crash near milepost 139 on Wyoming Road 414. “The driver of the SUV involved in the crash was taken to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs where she was treated for her injuries,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “A passenger in the vehicle – 10-year-old Arriahna Ball of Manila, Utah – was transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal, where she died from her injuries.

Uintah Basin Bull Rider in Texas Hospital with Serious Injuries; Fundraiser 2/20
Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo is having a special fundraiser for a Randlett cowboy who was seriously injured earlier this month. Josh Frost has been consistently representing the Uintah Basin in the rodeo circuit. This last year he finished 10th in the all-around world standings, 14th in the bull riding world standings and 15th in the average at his first Wrangler NFR. He has shown the world what the Basin is made of and now the Basin has the chance to say thank you and show him some support. Frost was seriously injured at the February 4th PRCA Rodeo in Fort Worth, Texas.

A Tale As Old As A Dinosaur Bone; Dr. John Foster to Present at Utah Field House
The rare Brachiosaurus bone that is on display in the Utah Field House of Natural History Museum in Vernal is the talk of the town. Well, more the talk of the world as it has made international news. The Utah Department of Natural Resources issued a press release explaining that a recent team of paleontologists, including some from Vernal, recovered the 6-foot 7-inch humerus bone belonging to the 30-ton dinosaur from the desert of southern Utah. This is only the second Brachiosaurus ever found in Utah and only the tenth individual of this very rare dinosaur.
Roosevelt PD Urges Parents to Teach Kids Correct Use of Over the Counter Drugs
The list may grow and change with time of safety topics parents need to teach their kids and while the importance of teaching kids to stay away from illegal drugs is obvious, what about teaching them about safe use of over the counter drugs? Roosevelt City Police Department is urging just that, sharing that there have been several kids get sick from taking more than recommended doses of over the counter drugs. “Please let your kids know how dangerous it is to use over the counter drugs contrary to instructions,” shares Roosevelt PD.
Public Review Period Open on Great Basin Fuel Breaks Final Programmatic EIS
The public review period is now open for the Great Basin Fuel Breaks project Final Programmatic EIS, a massive BLM project that spans six states and which northeastern Utah is included. The BLM is proposing to create and maintain a system of fuel breaks in the Great Basin region that covers nearly 224 million acres in portions of California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Utah. “The fuel breaks would be placed along a subset of available linear features, such as roads and rights-of-way on BLM administered lands within sagebrush communities,” shares the BLM.

Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal and Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt both made a prestigious list recognizing the top 100 Rural and Community Hospitals across the country. The Chartis Center for Rural Health publishes the list every year. “The Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital award program reminds us that rural providers haven’t lost touch with their mission and are committed to delivering better quality, better outcomes and better patient satisfaction,” shares Michael Topchik with the Chartis Center for Rural Health.
DWR to Public: Do NOT Feed Deer or Other Wildlife
Sometimes people want to take care of or help wildlife and ultimately have the opposite effect. Recently the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources discovered corn kernels in the gut of a deer that died of chronic wasting disease. While it is not illegal to feed the wildlife, there are several reasons that it is highly discouraged. A big reason is there is a real danger when deer, elk, and moose congregate. Chronic wasting disease is a fatal transmissible disease that affects the nervous systems of deer, elk, and moose.
TriCounty Health: New Regulations for Commercial Water Haulers
TriCounty Health shares that there have been new regulations put in place, that started on January 1st, for those that haul water commercially. With parts of the TriCounty area having limited access to water there are residents having water hauled to their homes. Since bacteria can spread so easily in water there are numerous safety measures in place to protect public water systems and now commercial water haulers will be held to a more stringent standard as they are considered essentially an extension of the public water system. This new regulation is NOT for people hauling water to their own residence but is only for commercial water haulers.
DWR Officers Seeking Information on Geese Poached in Uintah County
Officers are seeking information from the public related to the killing and waste of 8 geese in Uintah County earlier this month. “In early February 2020, conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources responded to a report of goose carcasses dumped south of the Ballard City Office in Uintah County,” shares the DWR announcement. “Investigating officers determined that eight geese had been shot and left to waste. The individuals who killed the geese also left litter alongside the carcasses.”
