Vernal PD Asks Residents to be Aware of Suicide Warning Signs
As National Suicide Prevention Week draws to a close, the Vernal PD has posted on their Facebook the warning signs that people should be aware of concerning suicide. These are not strict rules but are indicators to reach out for help. Topics or wording in conversations to stay alert to are the following: experiencing unbearable pain, being a burden to others, having no reason to live, feeling trapped and having thoughts of killing themselves.
Union Tailgating Party “Honoring Our First Responders”

Fire Affects US-191 in Duchesne County on Sunday
A fire affected travel on Highway 191 in Duchesne County on Sunday. A UDOT traffic alert was issued just before 2:00 pm on September 15th, stating that a fire was affecting both directions of the roadway at Mile Post 291, about three miles south of Duchesne City. Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office shared an update at 6pm that, according to the Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center, the fire was contained to three-quarters of an acre on private land and by that time was out.

Annual Sandhill Crane Viewing Day a Fun Event Coming Up This Month
If you haven’t had the opportunity to hair the rattling call of the sandhill crane, you are in luck with the DWR annual sandhill crane viewing day this month. Perhaps most memorable about this unique bird is it's unique call that can literally be heard up to 2.5 miles away. Another interesting quirk about this bird is the dancing and courtship rituals performed as mates are chosen. With so many charms, it is no surprise that the sandhill crane viewing day is an annual event, this year scheduled for September 28th.

Uintah County Commission Adopts Ordinance to Collect Transportation Sales Tax
In 2018, Utah Legislature passed and Governor Herbert signed into law Senate Bill 136, enabling counties in Utah to enact a quarter percent sales tax to fund transportation needs. On Monday, September 9th, the Uintah County Commission adopted an ordinance to enact the tax which will go into effect on January 1st.
Friday 13th Hotel Vernal Haunt
To the superstitious, Friday and the 13th is an unlucky combination, however, this year, residents of the Uintah Basin can call it their lucky day. The Hotel Vernal Haunt will be having a special preview night tonight, Friday the 13th, to allow the volunteers a chance to have a run through and also give the residents a sneak peek of the scary fun to be had.
