The Basin knows that the Girl Scouts has a strong presence when it’s time to buy cookies but the organization also has a lot more going on. Right now they are planning a Girl Scout Day Camp with Utah Field House of Natural History.

During the FBLA national’s closing ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, Altamont’s Ethan Abegglen and Braxton Hyde were named ninth place in graphic design. Over 13,000 students were in attendance from across the United States, even including select countries such as China and Hungary.

Monday’s radio forum on Newstalk 104.5 FM and AM 920 KVEL will address a hot topic in the state of Utah, the topic of tax reform. Major changes were nearly pushed through during the Utah Legislative session earlier this year but after major pushback from around the state, the reforms were delayed and state officials promised to hold public meetings and gather input before moving forward.

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office reports that they are investigating two new fraud cases involving callers that are running a new scam. The callers identify themselves as being part of either a government agency, such as the IRS, or as representatives of a legitimate company/business.

Roosevelt City is very concerned with the way some members of the community have been treating the new trees that were planted around the walking path at Constitution Park. Of the 100 new trees, two of the saplings have already been snapped in half. The city reminds the public that it has taken the last two months for members of the Roosevelt Rotary Club and Strata Networks to get all those trees planted.

For those talented singers in the Uintah Basin area that want to share their talents with the community and have a chance to win a hefty grand prize the Alive After Five Idol Contest is getting ready to start on Thursday, July 18th. To be a part of the contest you need to get your registration filled out and your songs turned in by 5pm today.

A patriotic event tomorrow in Vernal is one you won’t want to miss and all it will cost you is a donation to the troops. The local branch of Safari Club International teamed up with country artist Chris Petersen for a free concert and a donation for packages to the troops is the admission price.
