Northeastern Utah Avian Education Center and Aviary is showing their love of all animals by presenting a mammal program. This free event will provide the public with some fun interactions with hands-on displays. There will be large collections of antlers, pelts, skulls and much more.

DWR Reminds People to Leave Nest with Eggs or Baby Birds Alone
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources reminds the public to leave nests alone in certain conditions. Recently, DWR had to intervene when a person covered a nest with a net separating the babies from the parents. DWR Sergeant Sean Spencer states that “people are welcome to prevent birds from nesting on or in their homes, but you have to do it before nesting season begins.
DinoSOAR Customer Service Award: Andrea Snow
The Hospitality Committee in Uintah County is recognizing the faces of customer service in local businesses. The new DinoSOAR customer service award recipient is a well-known friendly face at the Sherwin-Williams paint store. Andrea Snow is the Sherwin-Williams store manager. One of her great contributions to the community has been helping with the downtown dinosaur murals in Cobble Rock Park by gathering all the paint and supplies donated for that project.
Delays Continue Through Highway 40 Strawberry Valley Construction
Most Basin travelers have come to expect some delays while traveling Highway 40 through the construction in Strawberry Valley and the latest UDOT update indicates those delays will continue. This week, crews started temporary striping to prepare for the asphalt removal between Mile Post 46 and 48. Pilot car operations have been in use for traffic control leading to obvious travel delays.
Police Issue Safety Reminder Following Confusion Over Pedestrian Lights
Pedestrian lights have become part of the flow on Highway 40 in Roosevelt and Vernal but some drivers are still getting used to their presence. Roosevelt City Police Department shared a safety reminder on Wednesday stating that there has been confusion over the pedestrian lights at 200 East and 100 South in Roosevelt. “When activated by a pedestrian, the lights flash yellow, letting drivers know to let pedestrians cross,” shares Roosevelt PD.
Uintah County Sheriff’s Office Welcomes New K9 Team Member
While the community is grateful for new recruits to local law enforcement, that gratitude may not compare to the excitement garnered when the new recruit is a furry, four-legged friend. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office introduced the community via Facebook to their newest team member Simba, a two-year-old bloodhound that is trained in scent detection.
Smallmouth Bass Transplanted From Utah to Wyoming Side of Flaming Gorge
What would lead fifty-eight anglers to spend their afternoon on boats in serious wind conditions? Would you believe it was to relocate smallmouth bass from the Utah side of Flaming Gorge to the Wyoming side. Why would anyone be doing that? Burbot, an illegally introduced freshwater cod, has decimated the smallmouth bass population, it is estimated to be by 90 percent on the Wyoming side.
Strong Local Turnout for Legislative Tax Restructuring Town Hall Meeting
There was a strong local turnout for the Utah Legislative Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force Town Hall meeting held in Roosevelt on Tuesday evening. The Roosevelt meeting was the 6th of 8 stops on the task force’s ‘listening tour’ aimed at gathering public input as well as presenting the struggles that the state budget is facing.
Victim Identified, Final Update on Rafting Accident Within Monument
The victim in a rafting accident that took place on the Green River in Dinosaur National Monument on Saturday has been identified. Officials released that 47-year-old Anthony Vasi, from Newport Beach, California, died in the rafting accident at Triplet Falls, a remote area about 12 miles from the monument’s northern boundary near Gates of Lodore. The Moffat County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the official cause of death was drowning, as suspected. A Tuesday update from Dinosaur National Monument provided further details on Saturday’s tragic accident.
Fallen Officer Remembered: Chief Cecil F. Gurr
Never Forgotten. Local agencies and individuals have taken to social media over the last week to remember one of the Uintah Basin’s fallen officers. Roosevelt Police Department’s Chief Cecil F. Gurr was killed on July 6th, 2001 while responding to a call at a convenience store in Ballard on a report of a man attempting to force a female acquaintance into a pickup.
