70th Annual Vernal Chamber Meeting Held at Uintah Conference Center

It was an excellent night of good food, great company, and excellent speakers at the 70th Annual Vernal Chamber of Commerce Meeting on Thursday night at the Uintah Conference Center. The baton of President Michael Fossett will be passed to President elect Signey Smith. Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox spoke to the attendees which was a special treat as he very recently announced his intention to run for Utah Governor 2020.

Vernal Officer Recognized At State Children’s Justice Symposium

This week, 820 professionals gathered for the 2019 Children’s Justice Symposium at Snowbird hosted by the Utah Children’s Justice Center Program. The conference focused on a new national campaign called SHINE that is “designed to help children overcome the effects of abuse [and] make sure each child overcomes shame and stigma,” shares the Utah Attorney General’s Office. “Children who survive abuse deserve to SHINE.”

Resident from Roosevelt Impacting Small Town in Idaho

Aberdeen, Idaho has a population of just around 2,000 people. Even though it is small, the town has invested great sums in a new performance art structure. It is a 396-seat auditorium, a practice gym, and an ag/vo-tech shop. This wonderful new facility is the Aberdeen Performing Arts Center or also known as the Wayne Millett Theater in honor of Wayne Millett, the school district’s performing arts teacher.

Dinosaur National Monument has introduced a new Facebook series of posts called Messier Mondays. The posts will focus on Charles Messier, a French astronomer from the 1700’s known for the astronomical catalog he put together because of his interests in comets. The Messier Catalogue features many deep sky objects including 110 star clusters and nebulae, which in turn is called Messier Objects.

For those that are planning to spend time in and around Flaming Gorge, stay aware of the construction. The Flaming Gorge Ranger District office will be making additions to the existing main office. That particular construction project will be going until February 2020. Be careful when visiting and while entering through the front door of the offices.

Eggleston Charged With Felony Automobile Homicide in 8th District Court

A Vernal man arrested over the weekend after a fatal boating accident on Flaming Gorge has officially been charged in 8th District Court. 24-year-old Corey Dale Eggleston is facing charges of 3rd Degree Felony Automobile Homicide – Causing Death With an Alcohol Content Greater Than .05 and Class B Misdemeanor DUI. According to Court Documents, a Daggett County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a possible drowning on Flaming Gorge Reservoir at approximately 1:30pm on May 11th.

Union High Senior Dalton Van is already a skilled welder thanks to his training at UBTech and is also the recipient of a special scholarship from a leading worldwide manufacturer of welding equipment. Miller Electric Manufacturing LLC announced on Tuesday that Dalton Van is the $5,000 dollar scholarship winner of their Weld-Mask Scholarship Sweepstakes to be used towards his welding education.

In this week’s Give’m Health segment, TriCounty shares that teen pregnancy is fraught with many negative consequences. Though not directly focused on teen pregnancy or other teen related public health issues, TriCounty Health Department offers a program aimed at providing youth with the tools they need to better understand the decision making process as well as the consequences associated with their decisions.
