Thanks and appreciation have been extended to Coach Gregg Stensgard by the Uintah School District’s Team Uintah. Stensgard was recently named the 2018 – 2019 4A Coach of the Year by the Utah High School Athletic Association having served as the head wrestling coach at Uintah High School since 1994 as well as working as a teacher of physical education and health at Uintah High School.

Uintah County Attorney Mark Thomas resigned from public office this week. The Uintah County Attorney’s Office confirmed to NewsTalk KVEL on Thursday that Thomas submitted his letter of resignation to the County on Monday, effective immediately. The Uintah County Attorney’s Office also explained that state law provides continuity in situations like this.
Uintah High School Student in Custody After Making Threat That He Had a Gun
A Uintah High School student is in custody after making a threat that he had a firearm on campus. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Monday morning when the student announced to a classroom of fellow students that he was leaving the room and that he had a gun in his backpack.
Local Career Fair Guides Students to Fulfilling Jobs
The Roosevelt Junior High School hosted a Career Fair for its students on Wednesday, December 5th. Over six hundred and fifty students were signed up to attend. Students attended sessions based on an interest profile to determine what kind of job would fit their profile, be it social, artistic, conventional, enterprising, investigative, or realistic.
Elk Lodge Free Throw Contest
Calling all kids, both boys and girls that are ages 8-13(as of April 1, 2019). The Vernal Elks Lodge 2375 is hosting the National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest on Saturday December 8th at the Uintah Recreation Center. This event will go from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There will be three age brackets for both boys and girls.
Gotta Love the Fudge! Oh Fudge Candy Making Demonstrations Tomorrow
Uintah County Library is getting ready to have its event that has become a Uintah Basin holiday tradition 14 years strong. The Oh Fudge! fun is taking place on Saturday, December 8th. There will two different sessions for two different age groups with two different themes. A wonderful double dose of fudge. The first session is for children 12 and under (with an accompanying adult) and will go from 10am to 12pm.
Duchesne Arts Council Hosting Winter Art Festival at Centennial Event Center
Find your snowy muse this Saturday and take part in the Winter Art Festival in Duchesne. The Duchesne Arts Council is sponsoring the unique winter time event on Friday, December 7th, from 3 to 6pm with a special art escape for adults from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Although the event is free, some of the specialized painting opportunities have a cost.

Recently one of our residents discovered that she would start her battle with breast cancer. Corinne Wilkins Ketterer lives in Duchesne and is a newly single mom of two young kids still living at home. On top of that, she is a nurse.
Roads in Ashley National Forest Begin Closing for the Season
Winter has arrived and with it, the roads are beginning to close in Ashley National Forest. The Forest Service has announced that “White Cloud Loop Road 020 is closed for the winter season, with a possibility of grooming later in the year. The road to Colton Guard Station 019 is closed as well, but will still be accessible for winter reservations by ski trail.
Man Charged After Interstate and Highway Closure on Tuesday Near Rifle
The man behind a public safety issue which closed down Interstate 70 and Highway 6 near Rifle, Colorado has now been charged. According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department, law enforcement responded to a call of a possible stabbing incident in the vicinity of the West Rifle Exit along I-70 at around 11am on Tuesday.
