More Endangered Black-Footed Ferrets Being Released in Uintah County

Once thought to be extinct, the black-footed ferret has been among the wildlife in Utah since being reintroduced in 1999 and a colony in the Coyote Basin area of Uintah County is among the lucky locations in the United States to receive more of the ferrets from special breeding programs this year.  The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources released 14 black-footed ferrets into the Coyote Basin colony in early November and will be releasing 11 more into the colony on Thursday, November 15th, shares DWR Conservation Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer-Selby.

Roosevelt Police Makes Statement on Runaway Roosevelt Teen

A case of a 16-year-old Roosevelt runaway has gained some attention since making Wasatch Front headlines over the weekend. Fox13Now.com shared the report that the 16-year-old boy had run away from home with a 24-year-old woman. An interview with the boy’s mother revealed that the boy and woman were allegedly in a relationship and had hit the road when police were searching where they had been staying.

Fall heading into winter in the Basin is not always the time we think about fish but Jones Hole National Fishery doesn’t want us to forget. The fishery recently announced that they received a new lot of Kokanee Salmon. The 380,000 eggs did not have an easy journey. They traveled from Wyoming and then had to be disinfected by soaking in a low concentration iodine bath before being let into the hatchery.

Man in Custody Following High-Speed Chase in Duchesne County

A man is in custody following a high speed chase in Duchesne County on Monday morning. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies were called on an “attempt to locate” for a suicidal subject in his mid 20s around 8:00am. The white Chevy S-10 pickup the young man was driving was located about 4 miles north of the city of Duchesne and deputies tried to contact the individual but he drove away and deputies pursued him.

Farmer and Ranchers Affected by Drought Can Apply for Aid

The drought that has been affecting the producers in the Uintah Basin has lead the Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to declare Daggett County as a primary natural disaster area. That means that farmers and ranchers that have losses due to the recent drought are possibly eligible for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans.

Christmas Tree Permits Going on Sale

Get ready, Uintah Basin the holidays are about to hit full swing. Before we get there Ashley National Forest wants to remind people about Christmas Tree Permits. If you are looking to cut down a fresh and local Christmas tree be sure to visit the ranger district offices or local vendors on Thursday, November 15th. Permits are $15 with a limit to one tree per household.
