Thankfully, a bomb threat at a school in Wyoming’s Sweetwater County was a false report this week. According to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, the threat was made at the Rock Springs Junior High School as school was letting out on Tuesday afternoon at about 2:45pm.

Hunters Encouraged to Prepare for Winter Conditions
The fall hunt is an anticipated family event for many in the Uintah Basin and among the many preparations being made, National Weather Service is urging hunters be prepared for cold and wet winter conditions. “Hunters engaged in the various open hunting seasons will experience winter weather conditions at the higher elevations,” shares the announcement.
Final Day for TriCounty Health ‘Flu Shoot Out’ Event
It’s the final day for the TriCounty Health ‘Flu Shoot Out’ event being held at the USU Campus in both Roosevelt and Vernal. The ‘Flu Shoot-Out’ helps provide flu shots to the public but it also helps TriCounty Health staff practice a ‘Point of Dispensing’ (POD) event.
Public Hearing Thursday Regarding Rail Between Uintah Basin and Colorado
A rail line connecting the Uintah Basin with outside markets could be a game changer for northeastern Utah’s economy and an invitation has been extended for those interested to come to a public meeting on Thursday and express their support of the project. A board meeting for the 7 County Infrastructure Coalition is being held on Thursday afternoon in Vernal and public input will be accepted on the matter of the Coalition seeking funding for the potential rail line project’s EIS, planning, and requirements to get to regulatory approval.
Dinosaur National Monument Celebrating Rocktoberfest
Rocking out comes natural at Dinosaur National Monument and in conjunction with Earth Science Week and National Fossil Day, the Monument is having a month long Rocktoberfest! The celebration kicked off on Saturday and Sunday with a Fossil Discovery Hike each day followed by several scheduled Quarry Talk meetings.
UBTech Hosts Career Education Summit
The Uintah Basin Technical College hosted a career path event on October 4th at their Roosevelt campus. The faculty was very welcoming and had a great preview of each of the classes available. Free food was served, personally made by the culinary department.
Eagle View Elementary Opens Doors of “Don’t Quit” Fitness Center
The school week is off to an exciting start at Eagle View Elementary with the opening of their own ‘Don’t Quit’ Fitness Center. At the end of last school year, Eagle View learned they were one of only three schools in Utah to receive a grant from the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Councils for a $100,000 dollar fitness center. “We were so excited,” shares Eagle View teacher Tina Daniels.

Praise from Sessions Appreciated; Local LEO Continue to Fight Violence
The U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions offered high praise for the law enforcement officers of the state of Utah last week during a special meeting at the Utah State Capitol. Many agencies in the Uintah Basin sent officers and all agencies appreciated the supporting words from Sessions. The goals he shared include reducing crime, homicides, opioid prescriptions, and overdose deaths, and his initiative measured Utah as having reduced crime by an impressive 8 percent.
