Uintah School District Business Administrator Responds to Claims

Finances in Uintah School District has been a target of public opinion this year and Business Administrator Derek Anderson provided a response to recent claims in a letter distributed to Uintah School District employees this month that has since been publically shared. In response to the claim that the District plans to spend $20 million dollars on a new district office, Anderson states that $20 million dollars is actually the top of the estimate for three buildings, not one.

The Furever Buddy’s Dog Rescue and others in the community have made great efforts to help the 101 chihuahuas rescued from a home evacuated during the Dollar Ridge Fire in July. The Rescue provided an update this week on several of the dogs that are still struggling and how the community can help.

DinaSOAR Customer Service Award Recipient: Stefanie Henneberg

The Hospitality Committee in Uintah County is recognizing the faces of customer service in local businesses. The newest DinoSOAR customer service award recipient is Stefanie Henneberg, a server at the Quarry Steakhouse & Brew Pub. Stefanie is originally from Germany and is a licensed horse trainer and riding instructor. In addition to working with horses and riders locally, Stefanie began working at the Quarry in early 2018.

Rotenone Treatment Underway at Pelican Lake

Pelican Lake is now closed to the public as a scheduled rotenone treatment is underway. Located about 25 miles southeast of Roosevelt, Pelican Lake has been known as the place to go to catch big bluegill in Utah as well as largemouth bass. An influx of common carp in 2008 and 2009, however, has changed the quality and the bluegill fishery has sharply declined.

Comment Period Open on Greater Sage-Grouse Land Management Amendments

The Forest Service announced this month that the comment period is now open on amendments to greater sage-grouse land management plans. According to the announcement, a Draft Environmental Impact Statement includes the proposed amendments that would affect Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, and Utah and the changes are aimed at improving “clarity, efficiency, and implementation of the current greater sage-grouse plans, including promoting landscape-scale alignment with state efforts.”

Roosevelt Man Dies in Service Rig Accident

A Roosevelt man died on Tuesday in a service rig accident in Duchesne County. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were called at about 8:00am to a service rig near 750 North 3000 West. “When deputies arrived, they learned crews from an oilfield service company were working to move a heavy, metal floor from one rig to another,” shares the release.

Dinosaur National Monument Campgrounds Update

Freezing temperatures have moved in and the maintenance staff at Dinosaur National Monument will be closing down campground water systems throughout the week. The Green River Campground closes for the season at noon on Thursday, October 11th.
