Two Basin Accidents Involving Semis Reported in Two Days

Information is scarce but there have been two confirmed accidents involving semis in the Uintah Basin in as many days. The Duchesne Volunteer Fire Department shared that they responded to a semi truck accident 5 miles south of Highway 40 on Antelope Drive in Duchesne County on Wednesday, October 24th.

Sex Trafficker Caught in Sweetwater County Sentenced to Federal Prison

A Washington man charged early this year with Human Trafficking and Sexual Servitude of a Minor after being arrested at Little America on I-80 in Sweetwater County has been sentenced to federal prison. 63-year-old David Peter Vier was arrested on January 20th after deputies responded to a call of two girls hiding from a man in the restaurant of Little America Hotel.

Three Men Facing Drug Charges Following Search of Duchesne Home

A search of a home in Duchesne resulted in the arrest of three men who are now facing drug charges. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, complaints from the public about possible drug activity at 175 West 400 South prompted sheriff’s deputies to conduct extra patrols in the neighborhood. A search warrant for the house was obtained last week following a traffic stop in Duchesne, shares Lt. Monty Nay. A driver was stopped for running a stop sign and the officer could smell the odor of marijuana.

Drug Take Back Events Around the Uintah Basin This Saturday

This Saturday, local agencies are hosting Drug Take Back events around the Uintah Basin where expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs can be dropped off, no questions asked. Pills and patches are accepted. Liquids, needles, or sharps are not. This is the 16th opportunity that Drug Take Back has been offered locally.

Snow is likely what made the difference during opening weekend of the general rifle buck deer hunt as the colder temperatures pushed deer out of the high country and into areas where hunters had an easier time finding them.

County Unemployment Rates Make Slight Move Down

While the state unemployment rate ticked up this month, county unemployment rates in northeastern Utah have moved slightly down. Daggett County and Duchesne County are both down from 4.7 to 4.6 percent unemployment. Uintah County remained at 4.9 percent unemployment for the third month in a row.
