September is Emergency Preparedness Month and while the TriCounty Health ‘Flu Shoot Out’ event has been postponed, Director Jordan Mathis didn’t miss the chance to present on public health preparedness at the Vernal Chamber luncheon this week. Using the Spanish Flu as an example, Mathis asked what would happen if there was a public health event now.

Current State of Uintah Basin Drilling and What to Watch For

Drilling numbers have been released for August 2018 and the Uintah Basin Small Business Development Center has offered their breakdown of what it means and what to watch for. According to their report, crude oil prices are staying between $65 and $79 dollars which is a range for oil production to be profitable, causing a slight surge in crude production in the Uintah Basin.

Early Morning Stabbing at Vernal City Residence

Vernal City Police have confirmed that a stabbing took place at a Vernal City residence near Ashley Regional Medical Center in the early morning hours of September 13th. According the the press release from Vernal PD, officers found that three people had been assaulted and received injuries and at least one person had been stabbed by an unknown assailant. The suspect was described as a male subject wearing all black. Vernal City Police had been dispatched to the same area as the stabbing 30 minutes prior on a complaint of a suspicious person consistent with the description of the suspect in this case.

Spark from Semi Causes Fire; All Urged to be Extremely Cautious

The Red Flag Warning from National Weather Service makes it clear that extreme caution is needed in the dry conditions in northeastern Utah and an incident south of Fort Duchesne on Tuesday really drives home the point. According to BIA Forestry and Fire officials, a fire was started Tuesday afternoon around 2:45pm along the highway approximately 2 miles south of Fort Duchesne.

Large smoke columns can certainly be alarming, especially after such an awful summer of wildfires. Officials of Utah Fire Info are helping the public put the noticeable smoke in perspective, however. Sheriff’s Office Asking Public for Help Identifying Potential Identity Theft Victim

If law enforcement is distributing a picture of someone, it’s rare that person is totally out of the loop as to why. That’s exactly the case, however, in Duchesne County this week as the Sheriff’s Office is sharing a photo in hopes that the community can help identify the pictured individual.  The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office has asked the public to provide the name of the man in the picture because investigators believe he may be the victim of identity theft in an active case.
