Roosevelt City Approves Budget For 2018 – 2019 Fiscal Year

Roosevelt City Council approved the city’s budget for the 2018 – 2019 fiscal year on Tuesday. The preliminary budget total is $6,857,700 dollars. “The city anticipates that most revenues will increase at a rate of 2.5 percent in the coming year,” shares the Roosevelt City Bulletin.

‘Active Shooter’ Training Exercise Planned for Uintah High School Next Week

An important training exercise is taking place at Uintah High School next week. The Uintah School District has announced that an ‘active shooter’ drill has been planned for June 11th and will involve district employees, law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions, EMS, and fire department personnel. A group of high school students have volunteered, with parental consent, to be part of the drills.

Crews Mopping Up Bluebell Disposal Fire

Crews are mopping up a fire that started Tuesday morning off the Bluebell Highway in Duchesne County. According to the Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center, the Bluebell Disposal Fire was called in at 10:48am with crews responding from Roosevelt, Myton, Neola, Altamont, the BIA, and Forest Service.

Rattlesnakes are found throughout Utah and two of the eight rattlesnake subspecies are common to the Basin area. While encountering a rattlesnake can be a terrifying experience, the Division of Wildlife Resources reminds people that knowing a little about the animal can go a long way to keeping you safe.

Election Ballots Being Mailed Out This Week

Opportunities continue to present themselves for candidates to share their voice with voters as Primary Election Day approaches.  The candidates running for two Uintah County Commission seats spoke at the Vernal Chamber Luncheon on Tuesday including Joni Crane and Bart Haslem who are running for Commission Seat A and Duane Shepherd, Troy Slaugh, and Bill Stringer who are running for Commission Seat B.
