A former Uintah County couple found guilty of multiple instances of poaching elk and deer will serve jail time for their crimes. Among other charges, William August Thompson faced 13 felony charges of Wanton Destruction of Protected Wildlife which he pleaded Not Guilty to in October. In January, 7 of those charges were Dismissed with Prejudice in 8th District Court and 6 charges were changed to Guilty as part of a plea agreement.

No Cause for Concern with Prescribed Burn in Jensen Area
The billowing smoke from a prescribed burn in Jensen had some community members concerned on Wednesday. The burn is being conducted by the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands in conjunction with the Division of Wildlife Resources. “It’s a habitat restoration project broken into project parcels on Stewart Lake waterfowl management area,” shares DWR Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer.

Bid Awarded, Work Begins on Vernal Regional Airport Terminal Remodel
Work has begun on the Vernal Regional Airport remodel that will allow more room for TSA check-in and can accommodate the larger aircraft capacity. According to airport manager Doug Brown, Flat Rock Construction and Angus Construction submitted bids for the terminal remodel.
Neola Fire Spreads to Tribal Land
A Neola fire on Monday is another example of how quickly yard and agricultural burning can get out of control, according to a report from the BIA Forestry & Wildlife Fire – Uintah & Ouray Agency. Neola Fire Department was called out just before 3:00pm on April 9th to a field fire north of Neola on a private farm near 11000 North 3400 West.

Republican Conventions were held Tuesday night. In Uintah County, 261 delegates were present for voting. In the final round of voting for Commission Seat A, Bart Haslem received 41 percent of the vote while Joni Crane received 58 percent of the vote.
