2017 Proves A Great Year For Tourism
The numbers are in and 2017 proved to be a great year for tourism. According to Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp, Dinosaur National Monument had over 315,000 visitors in 2017.
7-11 Ranch Restaurant Celebrates Heritage
One local restaurant with deep roots is celebrating their heritage along with favorite local dishes. 85 years ago, Warren and Daisy Belcher opened a hot dog stand they called the “Grub Box” which was renamed the 7-11 Ranch Restaurant in 1949.

Electronics Recycling Accepting Tube Televisions and Monitors
Certified destruction of data on computers and devices is not easy to come by but a window of opportunity is now open. A free electronics recycling event hosted by the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce and TriCounty Health Department will run through the month of January.

January is National Radon Action Month and TriCounty Health Department is encouraging residents to test their home for radon levels. Radon is a colorless, odorless, naturally occurring toxic gas that is emitted from minerals in the ground.

Vernal Chamber luncheon didn’t disappoint on Tuesday thanks to a presentation by Simplot blasting supervisor Cassidy McAllister. Simplot Phosphates, LLC not only channels around $38 million dollars into the Vernal and Rock Springs economies through employee salaries, it is also a major supporter of community events like Holly Days and Trees for Charity.
Uintah County Trails Master Plan Making Progress
Plans on the Uintah County Trails Master Plan continues forward and a public meeting is scheduled in the coming weeks to gather further input from the public. Last spring, the trails committee held several public hearings that contributed to the work that has been done in the many months since.
Vernal Regional Airport Update
Vernal Regional Airport manager Doug Brown gave a report to the board of the Uintah Transportation Special Service District on Thursday evening. Brown explained to the board the need to analyze the rates at the airport. Brown specifically wanted to discuss the lease rates for the hangers at the airport.
Craig Police Asking for Public’s Help
The Craig Police are asking the public to keep an eye out for 29-year-old Marco Ocejo-Contreras. Marco is 5 foot 9 inches tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds.
