The Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra enjoyed an amazing opportunity this month with a visit from Dr. Michael Palumbo, Music Director and Conductor of Chamber Orchestra Ogden. Dr. Palumbo served for 31 years as the Director of Orchestral Studies and Professor of Viola at Weber State University before retiring in 2013.

Dinosaur National Monument Sites Close with Government Shutdown
The United States federal government shutdown became effective January 20th after legislation to fund government agencies and operations failed to pass due to disputes over an immigration policy. Dinosaur National Monument announced Saturday that due to the federal government shutdown, the Quarry and Visitors Center are now closed until further notice.
Conditions Remain Safe for Upcoming Burbot Bash
While some local events are possibly on hold for safety reasons, representatives for the Burbot Bash have announced that a safety meeting was held and all those involved felt comfortable with the current conditions on Flaming Gorge.
Bishop Introduces HR 4825: Marijuana Effective Drug Study Act
Representative Rob Bishop, joined by the entire Utah House delegation and supported also by the Senate, introduced HR 4825: the Marijuana Effective Drug Study Act this week. Known as the MEDS Act, the effort is aimed at creating a reasoned and responsible environment where the best minds are able to analyze and examine marijuana for medicinal use.
UDOT Warning: Severe Winter Road Conditions on Highway 40 and US-191
Travelers beware. The Utah Department of Transportation Traffic Operations Center has issued a road weather alert with the forecast period outlined as noon on Friday through 6pm on Saturday. A significant storm is scheduled to bring large accumulations of snow starting Friday afternoon and the entire route of Highway 40 is included on the list of high concern for motorists.
Uintah County Woman Charged With Felony Child Abuse of Infant
A Uintah County woman has been charged with felony child abuse of an infant under 1 year of age. The charge of child abuse was filed on January 11th against 21-year-old Gracelynn Rae Yazzie citing a January 5th incident. The 2nd degree felony child abuse charge is stated to have inflicted serious physical injury intentionally. According to the Probable Cause Statement, Yazzie was the adult caregiver to a child under the age of 1 when “the child was seriously burned on his legs and feet.
Steinaker Ice Fishing Tourney Depends on Safe Ice Conditions
With the odd January weather, officials continue to plan on an upcoming Steinaker ice fishing event but are leaving room for the possibility it may need postponed. The 8th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament is scheduled to be held at Steinaker State Park on February 3rd.

Uintah Basin Water Summit a Success
The Uintah Basin Water Summit welcomed state and local leaders to the Grace Event Center in Roosevelt on Wednesday. Many speakers addressed water issues in the Basin and of course the low snowpack was a topic of concern.
