A fatal head on collision occurred Monday evening when a driver drifted into oncoming traffic at about 6:30pm at 895 West Highway 40 in Vernal, shutting down both directions of traffic as emergency personnel handled the scene. According to Vernal City Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell, the female driver of the eastbound vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane, striking another vehicle.

Jury Trial and Bail Hearing Scheduled for Men in Rape of Uintah County Girl
A jury trial and bail hearing have been scheduled in Salt Lake County 3rd District Court for the three men charged with raping a Uintah County girl in 2016. The original trial of Jerry Flatlip, Randall Flatlip, and Larson Rondeau began in Summit County on December 12th but was declared a mistrial by the end of the day for failure to seat a jury.

The Vernal Youth City Council was introduced and sworn in on Wednesday night at the Vernal City Council meeting. Vernal City Nails Down Contract With G&H Garbage
Vernal City Council held a quick meeting on Wednesday night. Approval of the contract with G&H Garbage to take over solid waste collection services this spring was the main action item taken. RDT, the current provider, also bid for the contract and while both providers bid below the existing rate, G&H had the low bid. RDT’s contract ends March 31st and G&H will take over on April 1st.
