Airport Manager on Economic Benefit of Upcoming Changes
After several years of major projects, the Vernal Regional Airport is on the verge of what could provide for local economic growth. According to airport manager Doug Brown, the move to Skywest was made not only for their more competitive bid but also in order to secure a return of TSA to the airport.
Last Day to Buy Christmas Tree Permit
Better late than never! Today is the last day to purchase a Christmas tree cutting permit from the Bureau of Land Management. Permits are $10 each and one permit is allowed per household.

The Division of Wildlife Services is highlighting the best places to fish in northeastern Utah where you can avoid a crowd and catch a variety of fish. Browns Draw is one such place where the tiger, brown, and rainbow trout average only about 15 inches in length but provides a nice variety.
Vernal City Budget Status and Outlook
Vernal City Finance Director Mike Davis made a presentation this month to the Vernal City Council on the current budget status and outlook. According to Davis, the general fund for Vernal City is approximately $9 million dollars and the utility fund is approximately $5 million dollars.

Vernal City Council Selects New Trash Collection Contract
Vernal City will have a new trash collection company in 2018. During Wednesday’s City Council meeting, bids for solid waste services were reviewed. RDT and G&H Garbage both submitted bids, both with monthly costs below the existing rate.
Winter Ozone Alerts Aimed at Oil and Gas Industry; Also for Public Use
A winter ozone alert system for the Uintah Basin may be aimed at keeping the oil and gas industry informed but can also have a broader reach. Director of the USU Bingham Research Center Seth Lyman explains that the alert system was designed to inform the oil and gas industry if there is poor air quality in order to make adjustments, but that all community members are welcome to sign up.

Holiday Performers Brighten Vernal Chamber Luncheon
Two holiday performances spread Christmas cheer during Tuesday’s Vernal Chamber luncheon. A group of performers sang the song Homeless from Vernal Theatre: LIVE’s production of The Forgotten Carols, which opened Tuesday night and runs through Saturday.
