UBTech Awards Given During Wednesday Board Meeting

Multiple individuals were recognized during the Uintah Basin Technical College board meeting held on Wednesday. Weslie Porter, Director of Energy Services, was presented a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Defense for outstanding service for his country, community and at UBTech. Porter was recently promoted to a Major in the United States Army.

Ashley National Forest Center Park Trail Improved Thanks to Extra Help

Improvements are constantly underway to areas in the Ashley National Forest including making trails more user friendly. An improvement project currently underway is to the pass on the Center Park Trail, Trail 59. The project is going well and is expected to be complete by this weekend. The Montana Conservation Corps or MCC, has worked in partnership with Ashley National Forest Wilderness Crew on the project. MCC is modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s that focuses on young adult development through conservation projects. The projects range from trail construction and maintenance to fencing, habitat restoration, historic building renovation and campground improvements.

Who could forget the day in June of 2014 when a blue 10 ton tractor broke halfway through the Browns Park Swinging Bridge and sat suspended over the Green River? For over two years Colorado officials worked to secure funding to enable the bridge to be repaired and fully functional again and while funding came together for the project last spring, actual construction has been pushed back. 

Big Red Fire Doubles in Size

The Big Red Fire located in northwest Colorado near the Wyoming border has doubled in size. An update released on Tuesday states that major growth of the fire in the past several days is to the east, moving toward the Continental Divide.
