Poachers beware! Rifle hunting on the opening weekend of archery season will not go unnoticed. According to the Utah Conservation Officers Association, wildlife officers are currently working on a case from opening weekend of the archery season in the Vernal area.
Utah’s Unemployment Report
Utah’s unemployment rate made another small shift upward last month, according to new data from the Division of Workforce Services. Unemployment rose in the state one-tenth of a percent to 3.5 percent. Approximately 54,500 Utahns were unemployed during the month of July while nationally unemployment ticked down to 4.3 percent.
Moffat County Teacher Facing Felony Sexual Exploitation Charges
A Moffat County High School teacher and coach who was placed on paid administrative leave last spring has formally been charged with 10 felony counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child. 35-year-old Justin Folley was teaching high school in Craig and coaching the boys varsity baseball team when he was placed on leave from both teaching and coaching.
Jones Hole Creek Closed to Recreation in Dinosaur National Monument
Jones Hole Creek has been closed to recreational activity in Dinosaur National Monument due to a septic line break. According to Chief of Visitor Services Dan Johnson, the septic break occurred at the Jones Hole Fish Hatchery managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
Motorcycles Crash on Highway 40
A safe following distance is more than just good advice and could have prevented an accident on Highway 40 near Duchesne on Friday. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, two Colorado men were traveling eastbound on motorcycles at 4:15pm near milepost 93. Witnesses reported that one man was traveling too close behind his companion and impacted the back tire of the lead motorcycle.
Body of Missing Vernal Man Found in High Uintas
It’s been a tragic end to the search for a missing 81-year-old Vernal man who had been camping alone in the High Uintas and was last heard from on Monday, August 14th. According to Duchesne County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Travis Tucker, Joseph Weyerman had been camping in the Elkhorn Loop/Chepeta Lake area for about two weeks and was scheduled to return home Wednesday night.
Vernal City Council Approves Sponsorships
Vernal City Council approved sponsorships for two upcoming events during their Wednesday City Council meeting. Sylvia Wilkins from Uintah County presented on the 2017 Energy Summit coming up the end of this month.
Environmental Crimes Task Force Up and Running
An Environmental Crimes Task Force has been set up by TriCounty Health Department. The task force has active participation from local law enforcement, the EPA, DEQ and the Uintah County Attorney’s Office.
