Social media has been swirling with rumors of large Basin fires with cases of news stories circulating that are out of date. The Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center confirmed Friday afternoon that while there have been 2 to 5 little fires a day, there hasn’t been any of significance.

Maeser Fire Substation Grand Opening Approaches
Maeser is a safer place with the new Maeser fire substation opening its doors. While the official grand opening won’t take place until July 21st, trucks were parked in their new home Thursday night making the station operational. The Vernal Department will run the substation with existing equipment and volunteers.

The Division of Wildlife Resources is conducting Colorado River cutthroat trout restoration activities across the trouts native range and two Basin creeks are considered a priority. Reader Creek and Lynn Creek have both experienced dramatic decline in the cutthroat population due to competition and breeding with non-native trout.

A Park City man was arrested Monday for a serious domestic abuse situation that allegedly lasted 3 days and took place near Dinosaur National Monument. According to Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on July 3rd at approximately 4:20am to a report of a kidnapping.

Hazy Skies Over Basin as the Peekaboo Fire Rages On
Skies over the Uintah Basin are not looking good as crews work to contain the Peekaboo Fire in western Colorado. According to a BLM update, the fire reached 4,200 acres by Thursday as passing thunderstorms over the fire caused an increase in fire activity.
Peekaboo and Mill Creek Fires Burn Across Western Colorado
The Mill Creek Fire near Hayden, Colorado is slowly working toward containment. The fire was reportedly started on Saturday by an individual building a fire line with a bulldozer. The fire sparked and quickly spread and the bulldozer was destroyed.
