Uintah High Theatre impressed the crowd at the High School Musical Theatre Awards in Salt Lake on Saturday with their segment featuring “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”. The talented teens entertained and thrilled the crowd, especially as the car began to float on the stage bringing the audience to their feet.

The window to declare candidacy for the 2017 municipal elections is coming up in June. It was previously reported that Roosevelt City has no positions up for election this year when in fact the Roosevelt City Municipal Election will be held to elect a Mayor and two city council members.
Daggett County School District Accused of Failing to Report Sexual Exploitation
The superintendent and a principal in the Daggett County School District are accused of knowing a 13-year-old girl had been exchanging nude photos with a 21-year-old man and failed to report it to police or the girl’s guardian.

Oldtimers’ 2017 Aims to “Capture Culture”
A unique event coming up in Meeker is aimed at cultural celebration and preservation. What is being called Oldtimers’ 2017 is taking place on June 3rd and includes the “Capturing Our Culture” event where citizens can come in as families or groups to simply discuss life in the area in order to create oral histories on video.
Work on SR-45 Means Temporary Closure
About 5 months after reopening, SR-45 is temporarily closed again in the Bonanza area. According to UDOT, the new bridge will be close for up to 4 days starting today to remove temporary asphalt and complete permanent paving.
Special Recognition Awards Presented at the Vernal Chamber Banquet
Two public figures well known for their civic service were presented with special recognition awards during the Vernal Chamber annual meeting and awards banquet. The first was given to former Uintah County Commissioner Mike McKee who served as Commissioner for 14 years.
Highway 40 Myton to Roosevelt Construction Update
Construction on the Highway 40 widening project is well underway as crews work to widen the road to five lanes from 6250 South in Myton to Pole Line Road in Roosevelt. Road widening has continued from 6250 South to the Ioka Junction while on the south end of the project the Dry Gulch canal box culvert is nearly complete.
New Daggett County Sheriff Sworn In
There’s a new Sheriff in town in Daggett County after the Daggett County Commission approved the Republican Committee’s recommendation on Friday. The post had been left empty after Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen submitted his resignation in April in the midst of the Daggett County Jail scandal.
DWR Recommends Changes for State Pheasant Hunt
The Division of Wildlife Resources welcomed public input during Thursday’s Regional Advisory Council meeting in Vernal on Thursday. Among the items on the agenda were proposed changes to this year’s pheasant hunts.
