Attending the annual Jones Hole Hatchery Fishing Day is a tradition for many Basin families but the fun is being shifted to another location for this year’s free fishing celebration on June 10th. According to the Division of Wildlife Resources, the event has been moved to Matt Warner Reservoir due to increasing threats from invasive New Zealand mud snails at the Jones Hole Fish Hatchery.

County Unemployment Ticks Down
Updated unemployment rates by county have been announced with a slight downward shift for Basin counties. Daggett County ticked down from 4.1 to 4 percent unemployment. Duchesne County fell slightly from 6.2 to 6 percent unemployment while Uintah County lowered incrementally from 6.7 to 6.6 percent unemployment.
NUMBFest 2017 at McCoy Flats
A free community event is celebrating a local hobby and all are invited. A celebration of biking and family fun, NUMBFest 2017 is being held at McCoy Flats this Saturday, May 27th from 9am to 3pm. NUMB, standing for the Northeastern Utah Mountain Bikers, hosts the event as their annual fundraiser to support infrastructure and needs of local trails.
Community Urged to Participate in Cemetery Cleanup Week
Every year cemeteries throughout the Basin are visited on and around Memorial Day and local officials are requesting help in preparing the cemeteries for visitors. Last month, local officials began discussions on cemetery preparations for Memorial weekend.
High School Graduates Dig Up Time Capsule from 5th Grade
A group of graduating seniors took a walk down memory lane to Davis Elementary on Monday ready to dig up memories. The group of about 25 seniors attended Davis Elementary School during their 5th grade year and had buried a time capsule full of memorabilia.

Eric Dowdle is known for his folk art often sold in the form of puzzles but more recently receiving attention for the TV show Painting the Town with Eric Dowdle, now in its second season of production.

Uintah County’s Joni Crane New Vice-Chair of the Utah Republican Party
The Utah Republican Party has new leadership in its ranks including a well-known Uintah Basin-ite. On Saturday, delegates at the Utah Republican Party convention elected Rob Anderson as the new Utah GOP chairman and the Basin’s own Joni Crane as the new vice-chair over the two-term chairman James Evans and vice-chair Phill Wright.
