Uintah High School High on Spirit
Seniors all over the Basin are prepping for upcoming graduations and energy is building as they anticipate what the future will hold. Uintah High School is keeping energy up with spirit week led by Student Body President Brant Johnson who has kept the school on their toes all year with antics, activities and a stellar example of leadership.
Cemeteries Prepped for Memorial Weekend
Memorial Day will bring a wide variety of visitors to local cemeteries this month and local officials are making preparations a priority. Uintah County Commissioner Duane Shepherd made a report during Monday’s Commission meeting that after visiting all 11 of the county’s cemeteries, a list has been compiled of things needing cleaned up.
Notice of 2017 Municipal Election
The 2017 municipal elections had better be on the minds of those interested in running for open positions because the deadline to declare candidacy is coming up. The Vernal City Municipal Election will be held to elect a Mayor and two City Council positions to serve 4 year terms.
Interlocal Agreement Approved; Hoped to Help Daggett County
The Uintah County Commission approved an interlocal agreement on Monday with Daggett County for contracting their jail employees. 80 state inmates were removed from the Daggett County Jail in February and 2 employees were put on administrative leave after the Utah Department of Corrections began an investigation into misconduct.
Access to be Controlled at Law Enforcement Area of Buckskin Hills Shooting Range
The Buckskin Hills Shooting Range is considered among the best facilities of its kind in the nation and proposed changes are aimed at improved management and safety. According to Uintah County Commissioner Bill Stringer, improvements in conjunction with the Knife and Gun Club, NRA and local shooting groups have made for an even better venue.

The Ute Tribe is pushing for a meeting with Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke as they push back against Trump’s Executive Order that could change the designation of the Bear Ears National Monument.
Input Invited on State Pheasant Hunt Recommendations
The Division of Wildlife Resources is welcoming public input on proposed changes to this year’s pheasant hunts. The DWR is recommending that there be just one general pheasant hunt that would start the first Saturday of November and end on the first Sunday of December.
Dinosaur National Monument Superintendent on Economic Benefits
A new National Park Service report shows the value of the tourism industry to the local economy. In 2016, there were 304,312 visitors to Dinosaur National Monument who spent a collective $18,084,200 dollars in the surrounding communities.
Plan for Fishery After Steinaker Dam Repairs Complete
Losing the fish in Steinaker Reservoir isn’t what DWR biologists were hoping for but a plan is in place to ensure that the fishery be restored once work is complete to the Steinaker Dam.
