Crowds gathered to literally feel the majesty of stampeding horses in western Colorado over the weekend for the 2017 Great American Horse Drive. The unbelievable event is put on each year by Sombrero Ranches where cowboys and cowgirls work for a week rounding up all the horses from the ranch’s vast winter range and holding them in pens in preparation for the drive.

Creating a master plan for the trails within Uintah County has been a focus of county and city officials as well as trail enthusiasts in the area for several years and things are finally coming together.
Former Daggett County Sheriff and 4 Deputies Charged
Five individuals are facing criminal charges in the latest with the Daggett County Jail investigation that led to the jail being closed earlier this year. 4 deputies including the previous jail commander are alleged to have known about or used Tasers on inmates and in one case using inmates as test dummies during the training of K-9 dogs that resulted in injury.
Applications Being Accepted for Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant
An opportunity for local non-profits and government agencies could make all the difference in securing funding for the coming years. Uintah County Director of Travel and Tourism Lesha Coltharp has extended an invitation to those interested in attending a grant writing workshop specifically for the Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant that is accepting applications.
Hazard Tree Removal Prompts Grand View Trailhead Closure
The Duchesne-Roosevelt Ranger District is working hard to prepare trails for summer hikers and announced Thursday that the Grandview Trailhead will be closed until mid-June, depending on weather. Grandview Trailhead gives access to Grandaddy Lake in the High Uintas and is closed for the removal of dead beetle killed hazard trees in and around the trailhead.
Representative Bishop Votes to Repeal Obamacare
The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to pass the American Health Care Act which repeals Obamacare and Utah representatives are supporting the measure. “The problem with Obamacare is that it has raised premiums significantly and it has caused people to have their work hours slashed and even lose their jobs,” shares Representative Rob Bishop.

Tis’ the season for road construction and several projects are already underway in Duchesne County. Chapman Construction announced yesterday that road construction will begin this week on the Duchesne County Special Service District #2 Connector phase 3B road project.
UBATC Graduation Fills Conference Center; Big Year for Welding Program
Graduates, family members, instructors, and administrators from the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College filled the Uintah Conference Centeron Wednesday for the 2017 graduation ceremony. There were over 450 graduates and the place was packed, shares UBATC representative Stephanie Carter.
Vernal City Council Approves Request to Place Proposition 1 on 2017 Ballot
Vernal City Council approved Wednesday night a resolution that requests the Uintah County Commission to include Proposition 1 on the 2017 election ballot. If passed, Prop 1 would allow an optional sales tax of a quarter of a cent to be used for transportation purposes in both the city and county as well as for public transit in the area.
