Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra Players Prepped for UBOC

A group of talented young musicians are ready to bring the beauty of the arts to the Basin this weekend. The Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra’s spring concert is being held this Saturday and an impressive program is in store. UBYCO’s co-conductors are each musicians in the Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus, the youth orchestra’s parent organization, and each support the youth orchestra as a feeder program into UBOC.

2017 General Utah Legislative Summary

Utah’s 2017 legislative session has concluded with attention given to education among many other items. This year’s session saw increases in education funding with a 4% increase in the WPU and a 6.7% funding increase over last year.

Basin Among Stops for Man Charged in Prescription Drug Abuse Case

Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem across Utah and the nation. One Salt Lake man has been charged with 5 counts of theft of services in connection with an extensive case of using fake names at medical facilities to obtain prescription medications and Duchesne County was among his many stops across Utah.

Bills worked on by local representation made it through the 2017 Utah Legislation. Both bills sponsored by Representative Scott Chew made it through and are now just waiting for the Governor’s signature.

Flood Safety Awareness Week could hold special meaning this year as flooding due to spring runoff poses a real threat. Officials in Duchesne and Uintah Counties have been watching snowpack and when and where spring temperatures could cause the greatest flood damage. 

Training Success for Local Firefighters

Training is a crucial part of any job or position but the training of firefighters is of special importance. Regional fire school was held on Saturday at the Western Park and drew a pool of firefighters from Uintah and Duchesne Counties.

Uintah County Commission Items Drawing Attention

An agenda item on Monday’s Uintah County Commission meeting is drawing attention. The agenda for the March 13th meeting, which begins at 11:00am, includes a new ordinance which is proposing to revise the “Parliamentary Procedure Rule regarding Voting Rights of Member of the Board of County Commissioners.”
