Communities and law enforcement officers throughout the region are mourning the death of a young West Valley City police officer on Sunday morning. Three people stole a vehicle from an apartment complex and a chase ensued with police. As 25-year-old Officer Cody Brotherson was deploying spike strips to stop the car, he was struck by the stolen vehicle and died at the scene.

Uintah County Man Facing Rape and Sexual Abuse Charges

A Uintah County man has been charged with 1st Degree Felony Rape and 2nd Degree Felony Forcible Sexual Abuse. According to court documents, 29-year-old Zachary Trujillo allegedly committed the offenses on July 16th. No details of the crimes are included in court records but it does state that the victim is 14-years of age or older. 

Mail in Ballots Must be Postmarked Today

Today, Monday, November 7th, is the last day mail in ballots can be postmarked in order to count in Tuesday’s election. Rural areas of the state need to consider carefully their best course of action if they have waited until today to put their ballot in the mail.

March of Dimes has recognized Ashley Regional Medical Center for “its work to give babies a healthier start in life.” TheThursday announcement explains that the hospital earned the recognition after reducing the number of elective inductions and cesarean deliveries at the hospital performed before 39 weeks of pregnancy to less than one percent.

A Uintah County man arrested last April and convicted of 40 charges related to child pornography was sentenced this week in 8th District Court. In August, Jeffrey Levi Batty pleaded Guilty to 40 counts of 2nd Degree Felony Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.

New opiate drugs are heightening concern among law enforcement and communities in the United States, most recently with teen fatalities linked to the drug Pink. Uintah County Sheriff Vance Norton and members of his team attended training this week focused on dealing with new opiate drugs and one drug in particular that is killing people throughout the United States.
