Uintah County Sheriff on Effort to Increase Jail Revenue
Agencies throughout the Basin are finding ways to tighten their belts but some are also pushing to offset the pinch by increasing revenues. Uintah County Sheriff Vance Norton says that one approach being taken is to steadily increase the amount of inmates housed at the Uintah County Jail.
Rock Point Cemetery Expansion
An expansion of the Rock Point Cemetery in Uintah County was approved during Monday’s Uintah County Commission meeting. County Surveyor John Slaugh presented the final plat of Rock Point Cemetery’s phase 2 expansion, noting that phase 1 is now full.
Uintah County and Vernal City Discuss BTA’s Vernal Route
Uintah County and Vernal City officials discussed in detail the BTA Vernal route during a meeting on Monday afternoon. UBAOG Executive Director Laurie Brummond stated that the Vernal route is the “heart of the BTA system…it’s the one that is used the most.”
Roosevelt Police Chase Ends When Officer Uses Vehicle to Stop Stolen Truck
Quick thinking by Roosevelt City Police put an end to a dangerous car chase on Sunday evening. According to Roosevelt Police Chief Rick Harrison, an off duty Duchesne County Sheriff’s deputy was approached at about 7:00pm on Saturday by a man in Stewart’s Marketplace that stated his 1997 Mazda truck was being stolen from the parking lot.

The Uintah High School Student of the Week is Gage Wilhelm nominated by Mrs. Eliza LeBeau. The Ute Athlete of the Week is tennis player Rachel Peterson nominated by Coach Lori Mills.
Hunter Regulations on Dinosaur National Monument
Hunting season is here and Dinosaur National Monument is reminding hunters of rules and regulations. According to Chief of Visitor Services Dan Johnson, hunting is not permitted in the Monument.
Crews Begin Work on Vernal City Water Meter Upgrade Project
A work crew in grey t-shirts will be moving around Vernal City over the next several weeks as upgrades are made to the City’s water meters. According to City Treasurer Obern Mayes, these will not be Vernal City workers but the crew from the contracted company on the project.
Huge Crowds Close out Charlie Brown; Call to Support Local Family in Need
Lines ran out the door of the historic Vernal Theatre for the closing weekend of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and the cast’s final performances didn’t disappoint. The show’s closing weekend was also used to collect donations for a local family in need.
88-Year-Old Local Artist Debuts a Lifetime of Work
After decades of painting as a hobby, the work of 88-year-old Nelson Marshall is on display in his first ever art show. Nelson was born in Vernal in 1928. He served in the army, married his wife Eleanor Sargent, raised a beautiful family and spent a career as a Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico.
