Fatal Crash on Highway 40
A vehicle crash on Highway 40 claimed one life around 1:30am on Monday morning. The Colorado State Patrol reports that the accident took place on Highway 40 about 5 miles east of Craig when a pickup truck drove off the left side of the road then corrected right and traveled off the highway.
Energy Highlight: Chairman of Ute Tribe Business Committee Shaun Chapoose
The Chairman of the Ute Tribe Business Committee gave a powerful address during the Uintah Basin Energy Summit last week. The Ute Tribe has been a major oil and gas producer since 1940 and is one of the oldest tribes to be involved in extraction of fossil fuels.
Crews Contain Green Fire
Crews have contained the Green Fire within Dinosaur National Monument. A campground and several roads were closed after the fire took off on the Utah side of the Monument Thursday afternoon.
EPA Considering “Exceptional Event” Status
The EPA is considering an application from the Ute Tribe that could have a real effect on the area’s nonattainment status when it comes to air quality. The application being considered was submitted last week and was a joint effort between the Ute Tribe, EPA Region 8 officials, scientists from the USU Bingham Energy Center and the Utah Division of Air Quality.

Energy Summit a Success
Feedback is in and event organizers are declaring the 2016 Uintah Basin Energy Summit a success. 600 people with varying involvement in the energy industry attended and according to event coordinator Sylvia Wilkins, attendees reported walking away with a positive, optimistic outlook on the future of the industry.

Ballard Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests
Two men are in jail after a traffic stop in Ballard on Sunday. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Larry Gardner of Fort Duchesne and 31-year-old Rustin Mair of Roosevelt were both on motorcycles when a Sheriff’s deputy pulled them over for a minor traffic offense.
Missing Vernal Woman Found Alive in Crashed Vehicle
When a 24-year-old Vernal woman didn’t show up for work on Sunday, family and friends knew something was up and reported the woman as missing to the police and began their own search of the area. Among the search crew was a friend who spotted something that had been missed by the others.
