Pet Regulation Clarified

Whether you are a dog lover, cat loyalist or combination of both, Vernal City Ordinance is clear that a residence is allowed no more than 4 total of dogs and/or cats. The Ordinance was revisited for clarification, however, during Wednesday’s City Council meeting 

Entities Explore Funding and Future of Basin Transit

The fate of public transit is a current topic in local government as agencies consider budgets affected by current economic downturn. Concerns on the topic were discussed during a joint meeting on June 20th between Uintah County, Vernal City and Naples City.

Adjustments to Vernal City Meter Project

Adjustments to a Vernal City project are aimed at avoiding future headaches. The City recently contracted with company Mountainland on the new radio read meter system funded by the Community Impact Board. 

Duchesne County to Honor Military, Law Enforcement, and First Responders

Duchesne County is set to honor the men and women who run toward, not away, from danger in protection of the rest of us. On Saturday, August 13th, at the Duchesne County Fair Rodeo, all Duchesne County military, law enforcement and first responders, past and present, are invited to attend and be honored as part of the Flag Ceremony during the Rodeo Grand Entry. 

Sky Junk a Common Sight

Chinese sky junk has been the bell of the ball on social media the last week with plenty of Basin residents posting their pictures of the pieces of flaming Chinese rocket that streaked across the sky on July 29th. 

UHP On Summer Travel

The 100 days of summer travel between Memorial and Labor Day are considered the busiest days on Utah roads and Highway Patrol continues to urge caution. While the goal is always zero fatalities on Utah roads, that period of time is also unfortunately known as summer’s 100 deadliest days.

It’s time again for the Uintah Basin Energy Summit and this year’s 2­day event is more than just updates from the local energy industry. The event, scheduled August 31st to September 1st, is hosting a community activity on its first night

Local Economic Development

Communities throughout the Basin are rising to the challenge of diversifying economic opportunities and maximizing tourism as a mode of economic development. Duchesne County’s efforts have included the promotion of the area’s “Hidden Treasures! Vacation Pleasures!” by utilizing the new website www.visitduchesnecounty.com. Uintah County has likewise focused on increasing tourism as well as building commerce through business development. 

UBATC Students Compete at National Skills USA

UBATC students with technical skills represented the Basin well at the National SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, Kentucky. All UBATC representatives placed at the national competition among stiff competition. Chandler Vincent placed 5th in Welding, Levi Lewis placed 9th in Diesel Mechanics, Sherwood Cuch placed 40th in Culinary Arts and the UBATC team of nursing students took 4th place in the Health Knowledge Bowl. “They represented UBATC and the state of Utah very well,” shares UBATC Vice President Tammy Wilkerson. 

Commercial Appraising Underway

Commercial appraising is underway for next year’s tax season. According to Uintah County Assessor Barbara Simper, the Assessor Office’s commercial appraisers are currently working to appraise all commercial properties in Uintah County.
