Community Spotlight
Members of the community took the opportunity to celebrate a few special anniversaries for the Catholic faith community in Vernal and beyond. September 23rd marked the 100th anniversary of the Parish’s founding and the 75th anniversary of their current church building. The Intermountain Catholic publication shared the wonderful news in an article titled, ‘100 years for St. James the Greater Parish’. They shared that in preparation for the 100th anniversary celebration, the parish council approved a renovation of the altar area and the cry room. As part of the project, the building’s interior walls were repainted, carpeting was replaced, the floor was refinished and the sidewalk and steps leading up to the church were redone. An anniversary Mass was held on September 23rd during which Bishop Oscar A. Solis told the congregation, “I believe the many courageous priests and religious sisters who laid the foundation for Catholicism in this valley are smiling and very proud as they look down on our gathering.” The rich legacy of St. James the Greater Parish is sure to continue another 100 years and beyond.
